About Us

Benefiting Approximately 1 million people across Ethiopia (Jijiga), Somalia (Dolow) and Sudan (Kassala).

Benefitting approximately 1 million people across three major refugee and host communities in Ethiopia (Jijiga), Somalia (Dolow) and Sudan (Kassala). The project covers capital investments in water infrastructure, capacity building and environmental and social safeguarding in order to establish new urban water supply systems for the host community and displaced populations of refugees and IDPs.

Currently, water and sanitation facilities for the communities are not well established. Due to this challenge, through KFW funding, UNICEF is implementing an “R WASH Programme” to build and strengthen the existing Water Utility Companies’ capacity to improve the reliability of the supply of water for the host communities and the refugee camps. Some of the most affected countries are Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, and Uganda.

Engineering construction works refer to the physical activities involved in the planning, design, and building of infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, buildings, dams, power plants, and other structures.
Utility Strengthening
WSUP’s Utility Strengthening Framework is a process for driving change from within utilities to enable greater progress towards universal water and sanitation coverage. The Framework uses eight steps which guide a utility through the process of long-term change.
Environmental and social safeguards
Regulations to protect natural resources and minimize irreversible undesirable changes. Devising and applying measures to mitigate adverse impacts of development projects helps to avoid additional transaction costs that may constitute an inter-generational burden.
